Established in 2005, McCarthy Associates is a small independent consultancy specialising in assisting suppliers to operational railways in meeting their training and operational obligations to their clients. They also offer the following services:

Our associates are made up from senior (general manager) manager level and professional training staff as well as operational managers with huge experience in many areas. We use a strong network to obtain the right associate for the job.

Tubelines - Asset Inspection Train

Tubelines contacted us as they are commisioning a new Asset Inspection Train (AIT) and needed their train operators to be trained in its use.  We successfully designed, developed and delivered stock training to train operators and trainers within Transplant to the ongoing satisfaction of the client (ongoing).

Dalkia - Implementation of Syncro Fire Panel (2008/9)Liaise with Metronet and London Underground to assure LU operational staff that new fire detection equipment and fire panels can be installed safely.Supply training to Station Supervisors and Control Room assistants to operate new call points and fire panels, liaising with GSM and support staff to ensure release of staff has as low an impact as possible.Stations where we have trained sufficient staff to allow ther changeover include Euston Square, Baker Street and Paddington

Metronet Signal Design (2009)

Supply Training Needs Analysis to the Signal Sighting Process, liaising with metronet, LU and Signal Sighting commitees, developing training and communication material where necessary.

 Metronet Control Centre (2008/9)

 Designed a table top exercise to be delivered to all IDO / DOME grades to consolidate refresher course (see below)Metronet Control Centre (2009)Successfully designed an Incident Management and Procedures Refresher for IDO and DOME grade.  This course was delivered to all DOME and IDO in Metronet to excellent feedback results Westfield - Wood Lane Station (October 2008)

Managed London Underground, Metronet and Costain training needs and handover as an operational asset of the first new station on an existing line for over 70 years.  This including interface for trial operations, operational training and design and delivery of the Station Familiarisation Checklist and 'train the trainer' for Core supervisors.

Managed Trial Operations on behalf of the developer ensuring handover to LU on time. 

Supplied 'war room' facilitation for multi supplier problem identification and solution, micro managing final stages of construction

Morgan Est - Shepherds Bush (Central Line) Station (October 2008)

Supplied Operational Training to station staff, designing developing and delivering the Station Familiarisation Checklist and delivering 'train the trainer' for Core supervisors.

Managed Trial Operations on behalf of the developer ensuring handover to LU on time.

Duty Manager Incident Management  Refresher Training (2008)

Delivered a block of courses to LU Duty manager grade (Duty manager trains, Duty Station manager, Service managers) to refresh in incident management, communications and connect radio procedure.

Westfield (Multiplex) White City Development

Carried out training needs analysis for new development being handed over to London Underground (LU), designed training, for Train Operators, and trained and accredited LU trainers to deliver the course.

Designed and delivered training to LU Duty Managers for new development.

Successfully negotiated with Health and Safety Trade Union representatives to gain acceptance of site for training.

Carried out training needs analysis for maintenance staff, assisted suppliers in course design and development for successful delivery.

Developed a framework of information and career paths for LU graduate scheme.

Researched a report quantifying concerns and options to improve the future of stock based training and the future of simulator training on LU.

Supply of operational managers to recruitment programme, assisting LU in the recruitment of operational staff .
